Echocardiographic recognition of the congenital bicuspid aortic valve.

چکیده
Twenty-one patients (age four to 25 years) with bicuspid aortic valves proved by surgery and angiography (12) or angiography alone (9) were studied by echocardiography. Seventeen patients had aortic valve disease (11 stenosis, 6 incompetence) and four had coarctation of the aorta with normally functioning aortic valves. A comparison group of 16 patients (9 with aortic valve disease and 7 without aortic valve disease) who had

Bicuspid Aortic Valve: An Unusual Cause of Aneurysm of Left Coronary Sinus of Valsalva
Bicuspid aortic valve is traditionally considered an innocuous congenital anomaly. Due to a better and widespread availability of non-invasive imaging techniques, it has come to the fore that 30% of these cases develop complications, viz., valve abnormality (aortic regurgitation and stenosis), and aneurysm of aortic root and ascending aorta. Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is an uncommon complicatio...
متن کاملProgression of aortic valve dysfunction in 51 adult patients with congenital bicuspid aortic valve: assessment and follow up by Doppler echocardiography.
OBJECTIVE To assess the pattern and progression of aortic valve dysfunction by serial Doppler echocardiographic examinations in ambulatory adult patients with congenital bicuspid aortic valve. DESIGN AND SETTING Retrospective analysis of patients referred for Doppler echocardiography over a four year period. SUBJECTS Fifty one adult patients with echocardiographic diagnosis of congenital bi...
متن کاملEchocardiographic diagnosis of multiple congenital aneurysms of the sinus of Valsalva.
Aortic regurgitation developed in a 56 year old man with severe nephrotic syndrome. Cross sectional echocardiography showed bilateral aneurysms of the sinus of Valsalva and a bicuspid aortic valve. He died of intercurrent pneumonia. Postmortem examination confirmed the presence of the congenital aneurysms.
متن کاملPacman Heart as a Congenital Cardiac Defect Associated with Flail Mitral Valve and a Partial form of Shone\'s Complex; A Case Report
Partial muscular inter-ventricular septal defect (VSD) or Pacman heart is a rare congenital or occasionally acquired anomaly. Concurrent Pacman heart and Shone's complex are extremely rare and have never been reported until now. We described a 37-year-old male patient with congenital Pacman heart, flail mitral valve (FMV), and a history of multiple congenital anomalies, including subvalvular ao...
متن کاملA retrospective analysis of mitral valve pathology in the setting of bicuspid aortic valves
The therapeutic implications of bicuspid aortic valve associations have come under scrutiny in the transcatheter aortic valve implantation era. We evaluate the spectrum of mitral valve disease in patients with bicuspid aortic valves to determine the need for closer echocardiographic scrutiny/follow-up of the mitral valve. A retrospective analysis of echocardiograms done at a referral hospital o...
